This is the year when Matt will become a Dad and I a Mom! We will get to meet our little Squirt and love him or her to pieces!
New Years Eve day was a very low key event for Matt and I this year. We slept in, had a big breakfast and drove over to Estes Park for a little snowshoeing. The weather was cold with a high wind advisory in effect. There were a few times on our drive I thought we were going to get blown off the highway! Lucky for us the trail that Matt picked was low and had a lot of tree cover. After going for about a mile and a half on the path we saw the frozen river open to a little bit of a clearing where it enough sun and had a strong enough current that it wasn't frozen. We stopped to take some pictures and then turned around to head back to the car since we really didn't want to be caught out there in the dark and the wind was picking up again. The walk back was harder on me then the walk out, apparently my hip decided it was done for the day. I needed to take frequent small breaks and very small steps. I really do love feeling Squirt move around and enjoy getting out in the fresh air, but I could do without the feeling of being handicapped. It really is getting in the way of fun. Don't get me wrong I had fun snowshoeing - I just wish I didn't feel like such a wimp. Here are some of our pictures from New Years Eve:
New Years Eve night we stopped in Estes for a Starbucks and drove home in the dark. I decided we really needed some "kid wine" to toast the new year so we stopped at the grocery store and also picked up a frozen pizza for dinner. When we finally got home we turned on the TV and it didn't take long for Matt to fall asleep. I might have dozed off a few times too but for the most part I read my Kindle. At 10 minutes to midnight I woke Matt so he could take in the new year with me. It was nice to relax and not have to go anywhere or drive home from anywhere after the ball fell.
We look so forward to what this year has to offer with Matt moving to day shift, Squirt filling our home with laughter (and tears) and me trying to get back into shape for the Women's Tri for the Cure again. We look forward to parenthood, exploring Colorado with an infant, taking trips to Michigan and having our first family camping trip. 2011 really was a great year for us as well, we had a blast on our 5 year anniversary trip to Alaska, getting pregnant, telling the world our exciting news, we witnessed a great friend (Stefanie) get married and started preparing a nursery. God has truly blessed us this past year and we look forward to the next.
